Kanye West, Jay-Z- Otis

Otis,       Jay Z. Kanye West.                       HIP HOP
The song starts with an original song from an artist called Otis Redding, which helped create the name of this song. Before Kanye and Jay Z start singing, you see Jay Z miming Otis' lyrics. This tells us that Otis' song was a digetic sound in the video. Other digetic sounds in the video include the girls are screaming in the car, the music stops and you can just hear the digetic sound of girls screaming as the car travels at a fast speed. The use of digetic sounds creates a realism effect, also when the music stops for a breif period when the girls are screaming it slows everything down and then the music starts again. This creates a nice effect as when it slows down it creates anticipation for the music to start again.

The first camera shot is an establishment shot, it tells the audience what is in scene. Both artists, Kanye and Jay z then walk past the camera, the over the shoulder shot shows the audience that there is a new shiny ecentric sports car. The car helps enforce typical relevance to hip hop, as in most hip hop videos props such as sports cars are used along with other props such as young sex appealing women. Through-out the video; flames and explosions are used this also helps portray the typical hip hop image. It creates the impression of violence/terror and a sort of 'bad boy' image.

I think the artists portray an image of wealth towards the audience. The artists wear white through-out the video; white clothing can sometimes represent wealth, in this video I think it does, it contrasts with the  numerous pieces of flashy jewellery; this is also typical of hip hop artists. In the background of a shot in the video that occurs many times due to the matched cuts, there is a large American flag. This creates the image of patriotism and some would say that many American people are very patriotic towards their flag.
Intertextuality is often used in music videos, through-out this video you see both artists creating a pyramid shape with both their hands. Jay Z has used this as his symbol for many of his years as an artist and he has become well known by it. When he performs live he often makes his fans copy him when he does the symbol. The symbol represents the religion in which he believes in; illuminati. Illuminati is the worship of the devils. Symbols are often used by artists as it can help the artists become famous and well known, they may also have hidden messages.
