Digipak analysis

Digipack Analysis

I created a DigiPack for Heavy metal music, there are many different types of heavy metal, I chose to focus on death heavy metal. The conventions of death metal are usually skeletal/blood related, I looked at many different death metal bands and I found that many bands used gory images.

The front cover of my digipack shows an image of goats skull, I took this picture when I was researching ideas for death metal. I chose to use a goats skull as I thought this would represent death metal correctly as it is quite a gory image and obviously creates the impression of death. The name of the band is Satans Desciples, the name contradicts its self, as Satan is known as the Devil and Desciples are always thought of Jesus' Desciples in the Bible. The name of the albumn is called 'Ork' an ork is a superficial character from Lord of the Rings, I believed by using this albumn name it would be able to link the band as an icon, as an ork image as they could be seen as quite freaky and scary. However looking back on this descion i regret it as it hasn't got much relevance to either the band name or what the albumn is about. I chose to add elements of purple to the cover as I thought this would challenge the typical conventions of Death Metal.

Above is the back of my digipack. I chose to use the Devils symbol '666' as I think this would imply death, I wanted to imply death to create a scary image, and also as it is a typical convention of death metal. The '666' has been cut out of rabbits intestines, I took a picture of rabbits intestines whilst researching death metal ideas. I chose to have just a black background as this was appropiate for the conventions of death metal. I also chose to create a few purple streaks at the top of the cover, I did this because I wanted to challenge the typical conventions of death metal. The songs on the CD cover are all Hell/Devil related, this once again conicides with the idea of death and Hell.
