Analysis of Music Video
IYAZ- SOLO
Iyaz is a new upcoming artist, all his music videos are similar due to the climate and the props used.
The video is set in a warm, bright place- in British Virgin Islands I think, as Iyaz was brought up there. Iyaz relates to this place by wearing bright coloured clothing, he wears an addidas jacket with African colours. The addidas clothing helps reach out to his target audience; that will wear similar brands to addidas.
Through out most of the video Iyaz is dancing, the dancing aspect also relates to similar to R&B videos, by dancing Iyaz will hope to gain support and a fan base, it implies he is a fun character and also down to earth, however the video also features scenes from rougher looking areas, this may help tell people about his background. The camera tracks Iyaz in a scene, he has his head down, this once again implies people should sympathise towards him.
I enjoyed analysing the video, purely becasue there is many things happening and there is bright and pleasant scenary. The video is a sterotypical example of an R&B video, it is similar to other videos from this genre. I think Iyaz could have differed some parts of the video to the generic conventions of R&B, this would have challenged the genre.

The song is called 'Solo', it links to the video, as it is about him losing his girlfriend. Through-out the video there is shots with Iyaz and his girlfriend; she then dissapears this reinstates the title of the song, as he is now solo/on his own.
R&B music is usually African-American music, with jazz elements along with a drumming background, this song has the generic conventions of R&B. Especially as Iyaz is an African-American artist.
Iyaz's aimed genre is R&B, his video features many things such as sunglasses, and flashy jelwery along with bright clothing, set within glamorous sceneary. These props used are similar to other R&B videos.
The images above show the similarities between Iyaz's video and other R&B artist Sean Kingston.
Iyaz creates the impression that he wants his audience to feel sympathetic towards him, as the lyrics tell us that he cannot live without his girlfriend. In the frame below, Iyaz is playing basketball with his girlfriend, in the same frame his girlfriend is edited out, this editing technique creates the sympathetic feeling towards him; as he is now on his own.

Digipack ideas
DIGIPACK IDEAS Front cover
This is a possible design we may use for our final cd cover for death metal, the image of a goats skull implies the death idea, which is frequently used by death metal bands. The name 'Satans desciples' reinstates the death idea, Satan (the devil) is also another image used.

Death Metal images
DEATH METAL DIGIPACK IDEAS
We chose to focus on body parts for our digipack. After researching heavy metal and more specifically death metal, we found out that many of the existing bands use gory images to promote their CD covers.
Headless skeleton creates a scary effect that Heavy metal bands may choose to use.
A half skinned human head has a gory effect.
We like the image of an X ray as we think it fits into the conventions of heavy metal.
This goats skull is quite scary and gloomy, it would fit onto a heavy metal CD cover well.
Human guts also creates a scary and gory image.
This is a rabbit skeleton with its original veins, the colours and the way it is presented also creates the scary image.

Death Metal
Heavy Metal.
Heavy metal consists of many conventions, the traditional heavy metal image is characterised by emphatic rhythms, really loud guitars, dense bass and drum sounds, and also vigorous sounds.

Heavy metal band members are usually presented with the image of death, blood, violence and sometimes even satan. The fonts and colours produced by these artists are usually dark, gloomy, blood related, creepy and scary.

Death Metal.
Death metal is an extreme sub genre of heavy metal, Death metal is usually presented specifically with images of 'death' and body parts such as the heart. The images are gory. Like heavy metal, death metal has a lack of colours, the fonts are presented in a bloody form.
The image above is a sterotypical example of the Death metal image, there is a body part used, amongst with gory blood.

Media Language
Position Signs
Positions signs may come across as just random however we can take a lot away from the different positions of the camera. The relationship between the camera and artist can be significant, as it can imply different things.

The image below on Beyonce’s CD cover, ‘if I were a boy’ tells us many things. The relationship between Beyonce and the camera creates the impression that Beyonce is innocent; this reflects the song as it is quite a gentle song. Beyonce’s sightline is looking directly down the camera, this adds to the innocent image. Beyonce is not wearing much make up or any glamorous clothing, her image is quite masculine, as you cannot see much of her hair, this masculine image also reflects the song about being a boy.

Archetypes
Looking at archetypes when analysing media texts are very important. The different archetypes send out different messages, such as masculinity and femininity. Archetypes help tell us about the artist.

The image above is a CD cover produced by artist Snoop Dogg. The archetypes on the CD cover create the impression that Snoop Dogg is very masculine and a typical man who loves cars. The way Snoop Dogg is crouching down, implies that he loves his car. This is a stereotypical view that people have about men and cars. The mise en scene such as the costume Snoop is wearing also implies masculinity.
